Aquarium Knowledge

About Aquarium Knowledge

A free knowledge base for the aquarium hobby — tools, wiki, articles, and tested advice. We are building a gold mine of aquarium knowledge, and we never sell anything.

Our mission

Aquarium Knowledge exists to make reliable aquarium knowledge free and easy to find. The hobby is full of scattered, contradictory, and commercially motivated advice; we want to be the place where a hobbyist can get a straight answer — whether that is a precise water volume, a clear definition, or a deep-dive article on aquascaping and water chemistry.

Everything on this site is built around the same idea: aquarium keepers deserve engineering-grade accuracy. Our tools do the math the way you would if you had the time. Our wiki and articles explain the why behind the numbers, so you can apply them to your own tank instead of copying a formula blindly.

We are hobbyists first. Aquarium Knowledge is written and maintained by keepers withat least five years of hands-on experience in planted tanks, community aquariums, and the equipment that keeps them alive. If we have not tested it or lived with it, we say so.

What you will find here

Four pillars, one goal: a complete aquarium knowledge base.

Tools

Aquarium tools & calculators

Free, no-signup calculators for planning and running a tank — starting with the aquarium volume calculator across twelve tank shapes, with fill depth, substrate displacement, and water weight. Every result is printable and shareable.

Wiki

Aquarium wiki

Clear, structured reference pages for the terms, shapes, species, and equipment names hobbyists actually use — written so a beginner can follow along and an advanced keeper still finds the numbers useful.

Articles

Aquarium articles

Long-form, practical articles on aquascaping, water chemistry, stocking, plant care, and troubleshooting — based on what actually works in real tanks, not on what sells.

Knowledge

Aquarium knowledge base

The connecting tissue: guides, FAQs, and hard-won lessons that turn scattered forum threads into a single reliable reference. Our goal is to be the knowledge gate of the aquarium hobby.

We do not sell anything

There is no shop, no checkout, and no paywall on Aquarium Knowledge. The site is free to use, with no signup required, and our tools never nag you to buy.

We may suggest — only what we have tested

When a topic genuinely calls for a product recommendation, we only suggest gear that our contributors — each with 5+ years in the hobby — have already bought, run, and lived with in their own tanks. Suggestions are always labelled as opinion from real use, never as advertising, and a suggestion is never a condition of the knowledge.

Accuracy over hype

We prefer measured inside dimensions over advertised gallons, net volumes over marketing numbers, and caveats over false certainty. When something is an estimate, we tell you it is an estimate.

Built for the long haul

Tools, wiki, and articles are designed to be linked, printed, and shared. If a page helps you solve a problem, pass it to the next hobbyist — that is how a knowledge base grows.

Where we are heading

Aquarium Knowledge is young. Today the site offers theaquarium volume calculatorand its supporting knowledge; next come more calculators (stocking, dosing, lighting), the first wiki entries, and a growing library of articles.
